I lost my opportunity to blog last Thursday because we were
at a deserted Mexican beach having fun and turning Chad into a mer-man (and swimming!
On December 7th!), but there’s a lot going on- God continues to show
his glory and faithfulness on a daily basis! I’m planning on sending out
a Christmas newsletter (now that I’ve posted it, I guess I have to follow
through) with some recent stories. But I wanted to quickly post this
morning because Jenny and I are about to meet with our friend Jorge, and we
want to be covered in prayer during our meeting! We met Jorge at the
lavanderia (the Laundromat) about 6 weeks ago, and he is a 41 year old Mexican
gay hairstylist who grew up in the U.S., so we speak to him in
English. When we met him at the
lavanderia Jenny had been looking for a place to get her hair cut, so he did it
for her the next week, and he showed a lot of interest in why we are spending
this year in Mexico, so we got to share with him why we feel compelled to live
here when we could be living much more comfortably in the U.S. Since then, we’ve been able to talk to him
several times about how God’s love completely changes our lives and gives us
incomprehensible value. He knows he is
empty, and he has admitted that he goes from relationship to relationship
because he doesn’t want to feel alone. He
has a vague belief in God, but it does nothing for how he lives his life. I was praying about him last week, and I felt
God press three words on my heart: He is
mine. The Book of Life is outside of
time, and although Jorge doesn’t trust Jesus with his life now, I am trusting
this word from God and do believe He will in the future, so I just ask you to
pray that the Holy Spirit would reveal Himself through our conversation today,
that Jorge would taste and see that the Lord is good, because we as believers
are the people who can make the world taste, see, and experience His goodness. We serve a living God, who died for us,
defeated death, and is alive, and so I ask you to pray with me that we would
show Jorge His resurrecting life and power through our conversation.

In other news- 3 of our team members left today for Christmas break, and the rest of us only have 5 days left, so I’m just trying not to get ancy, but instead to enjoy the time here till Saturday. I’m so ready to start break and visit all of you precious friends, but as long as I’m willing, God can still use me here, so I’m praying for continual willingness and whole-heartedness in what we’re doing in the here and now!

  1. It was awesome seeing you last week! It was really cool to see how your everyday life is down in Mexico! You have a way of making people trust you and I know that Jorge will see God’s love and trust through you. I will pray for you as you talk to Jorge and your flight home!

  2. Im praying for you girl! I know God will give you the strength and words to show God’s grace to Jorge! Keep it up! I love you and hope we can chat sometime soon!
